Jewish Sages of Today

About Targum Shlishi

Targum Shlishi, a Raquel and Aryeh Rubin Foundation, was founded in 1992 and is devoted to fostering positive change in the Jewish world. The foundation's four primary areas of focus are education, women's issues, Israel, and justice for Nazi war crimes.

Targum Shlishi seeks innovative, unpublicized, and behind-the-scenes initiatives working for meaningful change that otherwise might not attract funding. The projects supported range in scope from local to international; the goal is not to fund the highest profile projects but to fund those that are creative and, when possible, replicable.

In addition to supporting approximately fifty projects in a typical year, Targum Shlishi also undertakes selected initiatives of its own, such as Jewish Sages of Today. Current and recent initiatives include:

  • Operation Last Chance, a project conceived by Aryeh Rubin and implemented in partnership with the Simon Wiesenthal Center's Israel Office, in which monetary rewards are offered for information leading to the conviction of Nazi war criminals
  • A fundraising campaign to help support the work of documenting history and locating mass graves of Jews massacred by Nazis in the Ukraine being conducted by Father Patrick Desbois of Yahad-In Unum
  • Mailing 1,500 copies of the book A Race Against Death by David Wyman and Rafael Medoff to carefully chosen Jewish leaders and potential leaders with the objective of motivating people to address the monumental problems facing the Jewish world today
  • Enhancing Jewish Education in the Baltic States, a project of the Lookstein Center at Bar Ilan University made possible with support from Targum Shlishi
